SUMMER/FALL 2021 UPDATES
2021 has been quite a year so far. Live music at a larger scale appears to be (safely) returning; current projects are continuing to be finished; performances, premieres, commissions, and more are picking up again; and, there is so much exciting news on the horizon.
I’ve compiled all of the following announcements into this press release. Each of these will be separately posted onto social media throughout the next several days.
WEBSITE UPGRADES
First, welcome to my brand-new website!! Everything has been updated (in some cases, re-made from scratch) and (hopefully) improved with easier access to site content. New updates include a refined Events page (with a calendar!!!) featuring all past and upcoming performances for both my compositions and arrangements; a consolidated Music page featuring the entire catalog (which will continue to be refined and reworked over the next year); and, this newly re-designed Blog page.
Check out the website to see what else is new! Let me know if there’s any bugs or glitches with the new site as well.
NOW PUBLISHED. NOW AVAILABLE.
The following new works have been published this year:
In addition, the following flex arrangement is now available:
TO RIGHT OUR WRONGS
Harrison J. Collins/arr. Trentadue | 2021 | PUBLISHER: Murphy Music Press, LLC
6 parts, + opt. choir | Grade 3 | ca. 6 minutes | © 2021 J Stands for Joe, LLC
To Right Our Wrongs aims to reflect on the complex, multi-faceted impact that privilege has on the American experience, and on the way that disparities of privilege play a role in both the fight for and prevention of social and systemic equality and equity. There is an extensive history of vast systemic violence and injustice towards women, people of color, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and other minority groups in the United States. Those who are not a part of these communities and, thus, have not experienced these communities' discrimination are privileged; if they know about the injustices of our country, it is most likely because they have learned from others. But members of these communities must both learn from others and live these injustices. Additionally, this societal privilege is not binary. It is intersectional, meaning that different people experience different amounts of privilege based on the communities they are a part of. A white, cisgender woman is privileged in the sense that she is both white and cisgender; however, she does not have the privilege that men have. A transgender, disabled man does have that privilege; but he, in turn, does not have the privilege held by those who are cisgender or able-bodied. This complex role that privilege plays in the systemic discrimination of our country led me to the guiding questions of this work: What does it mean to work against the wrongdoings of our country's past and present? How can privilege be utilized for good? As those who hold privilege, what does it mean to right our wrongs?

ANNOUNCING A DISTRIBUTION DEAL WITH M&M MUSIC PRESS, LLC
Earlier this summer, I accepted a position with composer and conductor Jeff Herwig’s publishing company M&M Music Press, LLC. In addition to my duties as Instrumental Music Editor, I’m thrilled to announce the following works will be distributed through M&M Music Press, LLC (and are available RIGHT NOW!!):

Looking ahead to the 2021-2022 concert season, some exciting events are coming up! Due to circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, all are tentative.
More events are additionally in the works and will be announced soon.
WORLD PREMIERE: MIDNIGHT SKYLINE (2019)
The CSUSB Symphonic Band, under the direction of Dr. Nicholas Bratcher, will give the world premiere of Midnight Skyline on November 17, 2021 as part of their concert event “Ex Spiritum et Lux". This premiere is part of a full performance of the wind ensemble triptych OF DAY AND NIGHT, featuring Shimmering Sunshine by Kevin Day and Across a Golden Sky by Quinn Mason. Additional details will be announced this fall.
THE MIDWEST CLINIC, 2021
I am thrilled to be returning, IN-PERSON, to Chicago for the 2021 Midwest Clinic Conference. This year, the Millennium Composers Initiative and M&M Music Press, LLC will be joining forces to exhibit together at the conference. I look forward to sharing more information about this upcoming trip soon.
TO FLY AND TO FALL (2022)
This summer, I’ve begun work on a brand-new chamber concerto for tenor saxophone, scored for wind quintet, string quartet, piano, and percussion. Commissioned by Drew Hosler, the piece is inspired by the poetry of Dora Sigerson Shorter, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Sara Teasdale, as well as the environmentalist and pacifist themes explored in the films of Hayao Miyazaki. To fly and to fall will embrace the beauty and spirituality of nature and life; recognize the importance of preserving, improving, and healing our planet and ourselves; and, create a call for action, unity and peace through equitable, positive, systemic change.
To fly and to fall will be premiered by Drew Hosler in Spring 2022 at The University of Michigan, as part of the final recital of his Master’s Degree in Saxophone Performance. The consortium for this work is now open until September 30, 2021 to saxophonists, orchestral & new music directors, and to any and all who wish to support this new project.
A piano reduction is also in the works.
I look forward to all that is to come, and I’m looking forward to re-connecting with so many wonderful friends and colleagues in person later this year.
