Neon Revolution is my first concept album EP utilizing a wide variety of colors and programs to create a vast, electronic soundscape. The album is inspired by the neurological phenomenon synesthesia, in which the stimulation of one cognitive, sensory function can lead to subconscious and involuntary experiences in a second cognitive, sensory function. For example, a person who possesses perfect pitch or absolute pitch could also see or feel different colors they associate with a specific tone or sound.
The concept is cyclical in nature, undergoing an imagining of the rainbow spectrum through various settings and emotions as if experiencing an entire day eventually progress into the dark of the night. Some tracks are inspired by grunge rock music and electropunk, such as REDrum.exe, while others are more ambient and somber, such as DARK Threnody.exit.
Each track is comprised of a specific color, a particular environment or emotion represented, and a .cmd command function or Java command operated on Microsoft Windows software. The terminology for these functions are defined as follows:
RUN - to start/run a specific program whose file path is known
EXE - to run an executable file or program
GREP - to run a search for file(s) that have similar patterns of given lines of programming
SCR - to run the screensaver installed on the computer's desktop
GOTO - to direct a batch program to jump to a specifically labelled line
PATH - to display or set a search path for executable files
EXIT - to close the program entirely
My sincerest gratitude goes to Zack Tuck and Evan Dunbar of ReoTown Recording for a wonderful collaboration and their incredible ingenuity throughout the entire editing and mixing process. My deepest thanks as well to Kevin Nixon for providing a beautiful cover that goes beyond the soul and spirit of Neon Revolution.
