It’s surreal to imagine that the first time I ever experimented with creating electronic music was ten years ago. While much in my career has changed since then, Neon Revolution is a project I continue to look back upon fondly as an experience I learned much from. In some ways, it truly was my first foray into writing music which was more ambient than thematic.
The electronic soundscapes created for this EP are cyclical in nature, creating a progression from day to night that moves back and forth between grungier rock patterns and ambient textures. Each track title references a color, an emotion or idea, and a computer software function, balancing natural concepts with electronic ones. The terminology for the computer software functions referenced in the track titles are as follows:
RUN - to start/run a specific program whose file path is known
EXE - to run an executable file or program
GREP - to run a search for file(s) that have similar patterns of given lines of programming
SCR - to run the screensaver installed on the computer's desktop
GOTO - to direct a batch program to jump to a specifically labelled line
PATH - to display or set a search path for executable files
EXIT - to close the program entirely
This re-release of Neon Revolution represents the EP in its original form. My sincerest gratitude to Zack Tuck and Evan Dunbar for providing a stellar mix of this project for its initial release.
