“THE GRAND LEDGE TRIPTYCH” WORLD PREMIERE

After being delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I’m excited to share with all of you that the world premiere of “The Grand Ledge Triptych” is officially happening.

The Grand Ledge High School Wind Symphony, under the direction of John Szczerowski, will premiere these three new band pieces (Splendid Ridges, Seven Islands, and Comets Ablaze!) as part of their performance at The 17th Annual Michigan Music Conference on Friday, January 28th, 2022. Laura Schramm, David Funk, and Tavia Zerman will all be appearing as guest conductors for this concert - each of them will be conducting one of the three pieces in the triptych. A special preview performance of “The Grand Ledge Triptych” will additionally take place at Grand Ledge High School as part of the Wind Symphony’s MMC send-off concert on Wednesday, January 19th, 2022.

This triptych was originally commissioned in early 2020 by Tavia Zerman and the Hayes Middle School Bands program in Grand Ledge, Michigan and highlights different aspects of the town, its history, and its community. Splendid Ridges is a musical depiction of the Ledges, the town’s famous rock formation in Fitzgerald Park; Seven Islands is a nod to Grand Ledge’s historical resorts and natural beauty at Island Park; and, Comets Ablaze! is a celebration of Grand Ledge’s community - past, present, and future.

I am eternally grateful to Tavia and the Hayes Middle School Bands for commissioning this triptych and for the opportunity to write this music for them. I’m also greatly looking forward to working with Laura, David, Tavia, John, and the students of the Grand Ledge High School Wind Symphony for their upcoming premiere.
